Mexico City, Mexico

It was late when we arrived at our hostel near the cathedral in mexico City.  We managed to grab a bite to eat in the restaurant just before it closed, then went up to the bar on the terrace for a drink before going to bed, as we were going to have a long couple of days in front of us trying to cram everything in!  Mexico City is huge!!  We have 2 days to do what we can starting with the bus tour tomorrow morning.

After breakfast the tour bus was just outside so we waited to catch the next one to do the city tour, making our way to the Anthropology museum which I was really keen to see.

We took in many monuments and buildings, representing the history of Mexico and its people.

We arrived at the stop for the Anthropology Museum and made our way there.  We spent a couple of hours looking around at all the exhibits of which there were many, and reading what we could, as much of it is only in Spanish and we did  not do the audio tour.  When we had been walking around for a while, hunger got the better of us and we went outside to get some street food as it was cheaper.  The museum was free today for some reason, so after we had eaten we split up and arranged to meet again in an hour while we viewed the bits of interest, as there was so much here to see, you could easily spend the whole day looking and taking it all in.

When we had seen enough we ventured back outside to wait for the bus to return and messed about taking pictures of ourselves as angels!

We hopped back on the bus and carried on with the tour until we reached a shopping mall…..well, why not?

We walked around for a while, trying on makeup, shoes and clothes.  This isn a novelty for us and we had a good time feeling a bit of normality again!  Then we saw Chilli's restaurant, which Nicola had not been to before and do the best Margharitas and buffalo wings, so we went in and ordered all that along with some fajitas….a perfect way to finish the day!  Tired out we just made the last bus back!

We ventured to the rooftop bar once again for a nightcap before falling exhausted into bed!

The next and final day in Mexico, we just decided to do the historic centre where we were staying, near the Zocala, and walk around there.  I went first to the cathedral as Nicola did not want to and she waited at the hostel for me as I looked around.  The Cathedral was beautiful inside and out, and was built around 500 years ago!  Inside it was huge with about 14 chapels built into the sides.

When I was done with the Cathedral, I went back for Nicola and we headed to the Zocala.

We started to feel a bit hungry now and stopped to get some street food, consisting of bbq chicken in spices, with rice and cactus.

Then after we had done a load of shopping in the discount makeup stores we found, which had everything you could possibly want at wholesale pricing, and we were loaded up with nail polishes, mascaras, lipsticks etc etc we made our way back to the main square, bordered by the National Palace, the Cathedral and other significant buildings.

We finished our day here and went back to the hostel for dinner and to meet friends.

We spent the night in the hostel restaurant, trying the tequila, mexican flag shots, and eating our last mexican meal!  Our flight was leaving at 7.55am so it was a 4am start for us tomorrow!!!  I was sad to be leaving Mexico and wished we had more time here.  I love Mexico City, it was truly a surprise because I was not expecting that at all, but it is a great city, full of friendly people and lots of history and culture.  I hope to return to this beautiful country again someday to do all the bits I missed!  The last couple of days have been an emotional time, as to us this is the end of our trip together.  We don't count the US as it will not be the same, that is a different kind of adventure and we will be doing our own thing and visiting friends there, so for Nicola and I together, just the 2 of us, this is the end of the line….it is hard to believe we have done a whole year and it has come to an end!  It has been a great year with many fantastic memories, good times and some not so good times, but all in all an amazing experience, one which I will never forget!!! :)
