After the most uncomfortable bus ride, where a cockroach ran across my face while I was trying to sleep, we finally arrived in Banos! I think I might possibly have screamed because I thought it was a spider whilst throwing my scarf, which I was using as a blanket to keep warm, at Nicola, because I think it ran onto there. We then saw it scarper over the back of my chair! Well that was it, I did not get much sleep after that, and was convinced it was on the back of my chair. That was until I felt something crawling on my foot!!! Found it!!! I kicked it in the air as I was trying to get it off me and hoped it landed far enough away not to come back!!!
The border crossing was a fairly simple and quiet affair and finally 14 hours later we arrived to change our bus to Banos, which was about 1 more hour. It was cold and raining when we got here and luckily we had a private room for a few days which was ready for us and we went straight to bed for a few more hours as it was still early morning. We then checked out the hostel called Chimenea, which was lovely. It had a spa and herbal steam baths which we tried out later that day, as well as a pool and terrace cafe with scenic views across the town of Banos showing the mountains surrounding it, with a beautiful waterfall cascading down!! We stayed here and enjoyed the views and some breakfast, although it was nearly lunch time.
The weather remained cloudy and wet mostly, and so we were not feeling in the mood to do much. Mostly we stayed around the hostel and I went for a massage and a bit of a pamper and we decided to just move onto Quito after a couple of days.

Quito was another colonial city. We have seen quite a lot of these now and I find the architecture and layout very similar. I read up about what there was to do and see in a couple of days and made a decision to go to the cathedral, some churches and the palace. Well, so much for making plans! The cathedral was closed for some reason, the palace you needed your passport which we had not bought out with us, so I just ended up visiting a church. Although it is supposed to be the most beautiful church in South America, and to be fair it was very nice!

The following day we decided to make a trip on the bus to see the equator. It was interesting but not hot like I thought it might be. It was actually fairly cold and windy! We did not stay for long and made our way back and were by now ready for some sunshine again and just wanted to get to Columbia for my birthday!!!
