Cuzco, Peru

We arrived in Cuzco at around 5.30am on the overnight bus from Arequipa.  We checked into the Wild Rover hostel, where we had 1 night booked before starting our tour of the Inca Trail with Gap Adventures, which meant moving into a fancy hotel the following day!  Luxury for us!  Our room at Wild Rover was not ready until 2pm, so we went into the tv room and chilled out on beanbags to watch movies and get some more sleep.  After we finally managed to get into our room and freshen up, we took a walk around the town and tried to get our bearings.

Cuzco is a real colonial city steeped in history, with beautiful architecture and buildings everywhere divided by cobbled streets.  There are many plazas and museums to explore and just relax in, and even more restaurants serving a delicious blend of Peruvian cuisine as well as fusion and western food for the less adventurous.  We found a great restaurant called Jack's which serves the best sandwiches, salads and breakfast, although you usually have to queue just to get a table, but that says it all.

We spent the following day getting ready for the Inca Trail and just walking around the town, soaking up the atmosphere. Our main reason for coming here is to trek to Machu Picchu and the time had come to start our adventure.

We returned to Cuzco for a couple of days upon completion of the Inca Trail and had a well deserved pamper day to include a massage and a well needed haircut!  We met up with the others from our trip at Paddy's Pub for a final goodbye drink!!!
