Hong Kong

We travelled by overnight train into Hong Kong in relative comfort, and I even slept in until about 9am!!  At around 10.30am we departed the train and headed into the terminal where we had to go through Hong Kong border control.  What a horrendous nightmare that is!!!  Queues for as far as the eye can see.  Just a swarm of people everywhere!!  We had been travelling about 14 hours already and were tired and hot and there were no fans in these queues.  We had all our luggage and were now getting exhausted and dehydrated!!  We should have flown in!  About 2 hours later we had passed through all the checks and boarded the subway to get to our hotel, which was another hour away!  Aghhh!

We could not wait to get in the shower and change!  We met at 5pm for our farewell dinner, which was delicious, and gave Andy, our guide a gift of a group photo encased in glass and some money.  He seemed happy :)

All in all China has been one of the best places I have ever been.  I love the culture, people and the country is beautiful, including the cities!  There is so much history there and a lot to see and do, far too much for one trip, so I hope to be back one day maybe!

Hong Kong is another modern metropolis!!  Very multi cultural!  Sky scrapers everywhere brightly lit up at night.  A lively, buzzing place with everything here you could possibly want!  We headed to the Avenue of the Stars, to watch the Sound and light show which is on every night at 8pm and is where the Hong Kong skyline is lit up with lasers on the waterfront.  It is cool to see!!  We then walked along the Avenue of Stars, who were all obviously chinese, so the only 2 we recognised were Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee of course :)

We then said our sad farewells to the group as some people were leaving today and tomorrow, and us four girls, headed to a bar for a drink after a few of the guys had a try at the golf on the water to see if they could win some money for charity!!  They failed miserably, but had fun trying!!  We enjoyed a glass of wine, the best in a very long time!  We then headed back as we were all tired still from the journey.

The next morning a gang of us to include the Dutch, Russians and our little Canadian friend Chantelle, who was leaving today too :(  headed to enjoy the views from the cable car to see the Big Buddha.  The queue was too long so we got the bus there and cable car back, as the guys had to be at the airport in a few hours!  The views were good but it was a bit hazy today and it was well worth the trip!  We said more goodbyes, and were going to be back to 3 now with just Nicola, me and Carmel until her  boyfriend Jason arrives in a few days.

We picked our luggage up from the hotel and moved across to a cheaper one we had found where we would be staying for the next few days until we left for Bangkok.  The next morning we went to the embassy and got our Vietnam visas sorted.  Then took the tram ride up to the viewpoint.  The rest of the time was spent chill in' out as it was gonna be a hectic few weeks coming up!!
